Copenhagen, JAN 22 (newstodate): LOT Polish Airlines has notched an increase in its core business in the year 2002. The Polish airline carried 3.388.000 passengers, an increase of five percent compared to 2001.
This exceeded the assumptions of the 2002 business plan by 115.000 passengers, despite the fact that the number of flights in 2002 dropped by 3.700 (4.9%) and the level of offering was slimmed by 10.6% .The load factorthus increased to 69.6% from the previous 61.8% (a hike of 7.8 per cent).
LOT attributesthe results mainly to co-operation with Lufthansa, that LOT will join in the Star Alliance frommid-2003.
On the cargo side, LOT Cargocarried 19,073 tonnes of international cargo in 2002 (up 96.2 percent), 1.382 tonnes of domestic cargo (up 116.4 percent), and 18 tonnes of cargo on charter flights (up 31.5 percent)
