Copenhagen, JAN 19 (newstodate): Construction work has officially been started on Jan 7 on Vuosaari Harbour Project near Helsinki and the capital airport, Helsinki Vaanta.
The project is estimated to cost ab. 470 million euros, of which the port costs, footed by Helsinki Harbour, will accrue to 260.6 million euros, while infrastructure costs, shared evenly by the Finnish State and the Port of Helsinki, will add another 207.4 million euros.
Adjoining the new harbour and its traffic connections gradually being readied for use from 2006, a business park will be built by the Port of Helsinki. By 2008, the Harbour and the traffic routes will be fully operational, while work will continue on the business park.
Roughly one third of the total annual value of Finlands foreign trade, and more than 10 million tonnes of cargo, pass through Helsinki's harbours, warranting a key strategic role for the Vuosaari Harbour Project
