OCT 29, 2003 (newstodate): While not reporting any changes in connection with the new winter program, Icelandair has instead announced its decision on major expansion in the next program, from Summer 2004.
Icelandair will add seven new destinations in scheduled flight service for Summer 2004, making the summer program the airline's most extensive schedule. On an average, there will be 128 departures from Iceland each week and the same number of arrivals, or on average over 36 flights each day to and from Iceland.
The seven new destinations are Orlando, Helsinki, Madrid, Zurich, and the German cities Munchen, Hamburg, and Berlin.
-Icelandair recognizes the opportunities in flight services to and from Helsinki, and will operate three times a week to the city. New markets are opening up in the Baltic States and there is also an increase in travel by the Russian population. Helsinki is also an important connection airport for flights to Asia, but Icelandair has increased its marketing efforts in Asia tremendously, especially in Japan and China, the airline says in a statement.
