OCT 21, 2003 (newstodate): In August, Leipzig-Halle Airport, that serves a catchment area including neighbouring markets in E Europe, saw its cargo volumes up by 20.9 percent, to 979 tonnes.
For the period January-August, the increase was 12 percent, totalling 7,201 tonnes.
The strong performance in August derived from increasing exports, up 42.3 percent, while imports declined by 13.6 percent.
Through January-August, the import has been up 27.2 percent, while exports grew by 17.3 percent.
The performance of the Leipzig-Halle Airport compares favourably with the average of airports in the German airport organisation, ADV.
ADV reports total member volumes down by 0.9 percent in August, and up 1.7 percent only during January-August.
