OCT 08, 2003 (newstodate): During April-June, Norway's airfreight market dropped steeply by 10 percent to a total of 26,499 tonnes on IATA carriers.
Cargo turnover was down even more, by 15.3 percent, to a total of NOK 500 million.
Japan, by far the single largest market for Norwegian air cargo and constituting 28.4 percent of total volumes on IATA carriers, dropped 13.8 percent to 7,520 tonnes during the period.
The drop is due to falling volumes of NOrwegian fresh salmon because of a stagnating market demand in Japan, unfavourable currency rates, and a troubled world market for salmon exporters.
China, the second largest market, was down, too, by 18.2 percent, as was North America, the third largest market, down by 18 percent.
