OCT 06, 2003 (newstodate): In contrast to Denmark, the Swedish CAA has no problems with off-airport cargo handling terminals.
-In Sweden, an off-airport cargo handling agent can process air cargo on equal terms with an on-airport facility, and send shipments off to continental airport ready-for-carriage, says Eva Axne, Swedish CAA head of secutiry.
-The precondition is, of course, that the off-airport cargo handling agent is certified by us, and that the facility processes the cargo shipments in exactly the same way as the on-airport terminals, including screening of the cargo, she says.
-The cargo handling issue is already on the agenda at meetings between the EU authorities, and we will most probably include the question of EU countries' different requirements on off-airport cargo handling, says Eva Axne.
According to Mrs Axne, the only difference in demands on off- and on-airport cargo handling agents in Sweden is that no security screening of staff is required at off-airport cargo handling terminals.
