NOV 18, 2003 (newstodate): On November 4, EUROCONTROL and the Swedish Civil Aviation Authority carried out a joint live trial to demonstrate a test infrastructure and several new surveillance applications enabled by ADS-B.
The test was an important step towards validation of ADS-B applications and of the complementary Traffic Information Service -
Broadcast, TIS-B.
-This event was a milestone and a starting point for a wide validation campaign. Based on these results, EUROCONTROL will work together with Member States and other stakeholders to validate air and ground surveillance applications enabled by ADS-B and TIS-B, says Van der Kraan, the EUROCONTROL ADS Programme Manager.
The trial was conducted in the airspace around Stockholm/Arlanda airport using three ADS-B-equipped aircraft and over 10 ADS-B-equipped ground vehicles.
An ongoing implementation and safety assessment in Kiruna also proves that the operational use of ADS-B and TIS-B soon will be a reality at European airports.
