NOV 20, 2003 (newstodate): A freighter service in the market of the Faroe Islands would probably boost the volumes, but there are limits to growth.
-The Faroe Islands' air cargo market is rather small, comprising only a fragment of the total transport market, but it is growing anyhow, says Brunjer Vigosson, Eimskip manager.
Vigosson says the main traffic is in items including ships spares and computers.
-There would definitely be a need for a freighter service, but it would require commitments both from forwarders and the airline, he says.
Vigosson says further development in the cargo market will be prompted by the new tunnel connecting the capital with the airport on a separate island, and a new tunnel project, just started, further improving the infrastructure.
-Still, another limit to growth in the air cargo industry is the limited capacity of the airport due to its short runway, he says.
