NOV 18, 2003 (newstodate): From April 2004, SAS may open a new route from Copenhagen to Shanghai.
If realised, the route will be served three times weekly with the airline's Airbus A340-300 aircraft.
Shanghai has long been on the agenda by SAS, but so far slots and frequency limitations held back the final decision. SAS is now reportedly closer than ever to launching the route.
According to non-SAS statistics, Shanghai generates about 31 percent of China's exports, 27 percent of its imports, and accounts for 29 percent of the country's total air cargo volumes.
Since September 2, another Nordic carrier, Finnair has been operating its Shanghai route from Helsinki, also flying three times weekly.
According to CASS statistics, Denmark generated a total of 886.229 tonnes of airfreight destined for Shanghai during January-August. Sweden generated 1,370.791 tonnes, and Norway 660.843 tonnes of air cargo.
