Copenhagen, FEB 05, 2003 (newstodate): Latest statistics from ACI, comprising results from over 750 member airports during October 2002, show a general increase in air cargo at 13 percent, to 6,084,108 tonnes.
For the first ten months of 2002, air cargo was up four percent, compared to a two percent decrease in passenger traffic, and a fall by three percent in movements, compared to 2001.
Cargo volume handled continued to rebound worldwide through October, with double-digit increases reported in Asia/Pacific (+21 percent), the Middle East (+15 percent), Africa (+13 percent) and North America (+12 percent). Cargo was also up in Latin America/Caribbean (+7 percent) and Europe (+6 percent).
Shanghai Pudong, with a 100 percent increase, Chicago OHare (+52 percent) and Ontario (+40 percent) were the fastest growing airports in October 2002.
