FEB 27, 2003(newstodate): Bulgarian cargo carrier, Vega Airlines reports a solid increase in operations last year, up 41% to 495 commercial flights generating a total operating revenue at USD 7,964,000, up 10% on 2001, the company's director says.
-During a single peak during the Afghan relief compaign, comprising September-October last year, we operated 100 commercial flights and transported 1,500 tonnes, which broke all previous records, says Angel Petrov, Vega Airlines.
Petrov says the airline lifted a total of 6,900 tonnes in 2002.
Vega Airlines obtained its first certificate to operate non-scheduled cargo charters to/from USA in 2001, and first flew into Newark in June.
In 2002, Vega obtained prolongation of its approval from the Netherlands CAA to operate under Farnair Europe call-sign. Also, Vega has operated in Europe for FedEx, DHL Aviation.
Vega is now pursuing Canadian certification and preparing to start operations in this market.
Vega Airlines owns and operates four AN-12 aircraft with a capacity at 20 tonnes payload, equipped with ICAS, GPWS and other systems to allow trans-ocean flights in accordance with ICAO regulations.
