Copenhagen, FEB 06, 2003 (newstodate): Latvian forwarder, Spedair is seeing "surprisingly" good trends this January in both imports and exports.
-2002 was a difficult year, and we did not see any increases in the market, says Inga Brasla, manager and co-owner of Spedair with 20 employees.
-One of our main assets is our new bonded warehouse at Riga Airport, which is the country's only such facility now attracting strong interest from many foreign companies operating in the Baltic region, she says.
Besides forwarding and bonded warehouse activities, Sepdair also provides cargo handling at Riga Airport for Czech airline, CSA, and the company is currently targetting more customers among airlines.
Spedair was set up five years ago at Riga, adding a subsidiary in Kiev, Ukraine, six months ago.
-Ukraine is a vast and fast-growing market, already served by eight employees at our Kiev-office. Due to its cheap labour force, Ukraine is increasingly attracting foreign companies to relocate production to the country, generating a boom in demand for logistics and forwarding services, Brasla says.
Internationally, Spedair works with partners including Exel
