FEB 25, 2003 (newstodate): In a comprehensive move to counter the collapse of demand in European air travel, SWISS has decided to terminate routes from Zurich to a.o. Prague, Bucharest, Sarajevo, and Tirana.
Also axed are routes from Zurich to Gothenburg, and from Basle to Stockholm, Helsinki, and Copenhagen.
In total, SWISS will cut flights from Zurich to 24 European destinations. 18 destinations from Basle will be cut, as will five destinations from Geneva.
The decision will also comprise grounding of 20 aircraft, leaving the SWISS fleet at a total of 84 aircraft, while up to 700 jobs will go.
The decision will take effect from March 30, 2003, with the start of the summer programme.
