Copenhagen, FEB 06, 2003 (newstodate): Volga-Dnepr Airlines has patented a new "black box" system to enhance the recording, storage, transfer, processing and analysis capacibilities of flight-data information for the Antonov An-124-100.
With the new concept, the aircraft is furnished with a PC and interface adapter unit to facilitate quick data feed-in from the flight data recorder ("black box") into the computer.
The information is next "e-mailed" to the home base upon landing, to facilitate instant flight data analysis and assesment of the technical condition of the aircraft's equipment and systems, regardless of the aircraft's actual location.
The system is now in operation with Volga-Dnepr Airlines. The company's Flight Data Analysis Group has interpreted 95% of all An-124-100 flights performed in 2002, exceeding the Russian CAA's standard requirements at 90%
The previous system of cassette-based flight data recording was inadequate on lengthy multi-leg charters due to excessive lead-times for timely transfer of the data tapes to base for analysis.
