MAR 28, 2003 (newstodate): ERA members have issued a statement urging European transport ministers to act on the issue of airport slots affected by flight suspensions during the ongoing crisis.
-It is an urgent concern that airlines, under existing European regulations, lose the airport slots associated with the suspended operations, preventing them from reinstating the services when the market returns to normal. This way, carriers are forced to keep operations in the market in order not to lose their slots. Immediate and full suspension of the use-it-or-lose-it rule is needed for at least the summer season, ERA says.
ERA members comprise Adria Airways, Aer Lingus, Air France, Air Malta, Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, BMI, Cargolux, Croatia Airlines, CSA, Cyprus Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Icelandair, JAT, KLM, LOT, Lufthansa, Luxair, Malev, Meridiana, Olympic Airways, SAS, SN Brussels Airlines, Spanair, SWISS, TAP Air Portugal, Tarom, and Turkish Airlines.
