APR 11, 2003 (newstodate): From 2005, the four Nordic countries plans to transfer control of their upper-level airspace to a new, joint control centre in Southern Sweden.
The project, named NUAC for Nordic Upper Area Control, will be implemented with the ATC control transferred to the new control centre at Malmo Sturup.
After a phased migration, this centre wil control all aircraft movements at and above 8,500 meters, or Flight Level 285.
Creating a single Nordic sky at upper flight altitutes is expected to enhance operational efficiency by 10 percent, also contributing to further increases in air safety.
