APR 30, 2003 (newstodate): Latvian freight forwarding company, Airkargo LTD is seeing a promising growth in Latvian exports and air cargo volumes lately.
-We had a very slow begining of the year through January and February, but since then we are seeing volumes up by 2-3 percent or even more, says Indulis Blums, managing director of Airkargo at Riga.
Blums says the Latvian economy has so far relied heavily on Russian oil transits through the Latvian port of Ventspils, but now the domestic industries in the export sector have seemingly started to gain inertia.
According to Blums, Latvian exports primarily comprise textiles, lingerie, furniture, pharmaceuticals, and medical products.
Airkargo currently employs 12 people, with three to four more expected to be added soon.
