APR 11, 2003 (newstodate): On April 7-8, Avialeasing Aviation Company and Vega Air performed a combined flight from Louisville, USA to Hahn, Germany.
-The Avialeasing AN-12 started its trip from Louisville while the An-12 from Vega Air departed from Luxembourg. The two AN12 aircraft met in Keflavik, Iceland, where the cargo was transfered from one aircraft to the other bound for Hahn, says Elena Kalugina, Avialeasing, from Miami.
-We actually could fly the entire route on one AN-12 but then we would need to make a transit stop in Keflavik for at least 12 hours which was not very good as the customer needed the cargo urgently, says Ms Kalugina.
-So we decided to make a combined flight; we brought the cargo to Keflavik and tranferred it to the Vega Air aircraft as agreed in a contract. The cargo proceeded to Hahn, and our aircraft returned to Miami. A further benefit was that we had our An-12 back to the Miami base earlier for other flights, she says.
