APR 30, 2003 (newstodate): SAS Cargo has decided to invest USD25-30 million in enhanced security at and around its cargo terminals.
The new security measures include X-ray scanners, video monitoring, physical modifications of buildings, and a new IT-system.
Also comprised by the decision is the estblishing of special "cargo zones" near the cargo terminals, supervised by a dedicated team for security guards that will observe shipments parked for onward transportation.
Increased monitoring of all vehicles, cargo and staff will be introduced as well.
Of the total investments some USD20 million are earmarked for new IT-systems to be delivered by Unisys.
The new system will provide full electronic monitoring of shipments all the way from booking to final pick-up point, also matching the requirements by the "known shipper" concept introduced after the 9/11 attacks in the USA.
