MAY 20, 2003 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo plans to suspend its weekly freighter services from New York and from Stansted during July and August.
-We have to bear our part of the massive 160 million euro cost saving program announced by the Finnair Group, so these are clearly cost-saving measures, says Timo Riihimki, Finnair Cargo director marketing cargo.
According to Riihimki, Finnair Cargo will re-evaluate the situation through the summer, but so far plans are to reinstate the freighter services as from September.
Riihimki admits that the rare and unexpected decision to suspend the freighter services will pose problems to some of the company's current air cargo customers who will need to find other solutions to their transport needs.
-It is most unfortable and most unhappy, but in times like these we simply cannot please all our customers, as we would otherwise strive to, says Riihimki.
The New York Boeing 747 freighter operates the route JFK-GOT-HEL-JFK, while the Airbus A300 freighter flies HEL-STN-HEL.
