MAY 13, 2003 (newstodate): Afghan airline Ariana has started operating a once-weekly route from KAbul via Baku to Moscow.
Direct air services between the two countries were severed in 1996 under Afghanistan's Taliban rule, but a new agreement was reached in 2002 to start flights again during the visit of the Afghan minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism to Russia.
The route is operated with an Ariana Boeing 727 aircraft.
