MAY 19, 2003 (newstodate): In April, the total number of flights in the CFMU area, slightly over 675,000, increased by only 0.5% when compared with April 2002.
This is by far the lowest increase for the year so far, says Eurocontrol in a release.
That there was a growth at all was partly due to the Easter holiday and to flight cancellations caused by industrial action in France, Greece and Italy.
The average en-route delay per flight increased by 20.1 percent, from 0.6 to 0.8 minutes.
The CFMU area comprises the airspace of Eurocontrol's member states plus Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine.
