MAY 15, 2003 (newstodate): Danish specialised freight forwarder, Mahe Freight prepares to operate its next IL-76 flight from Billund, Denmark to Kabul, Afghanistan, on Saturday.
The aircraft, registrered in Iran, will take some 40 tonnes of consolidated aid shipments from European NGOs to Afghanistan.
-We have been operating these IL-76 flights twice per month since Autumn last year, and we see no signs of reduced market demands, says Jorgen Jessen, Mahe Freight relief manager.
Due to the EU-ban on Stage II aircraft, the Iranian IL-76 is not allowed to fly commercial goods into or out of Billund, adding extra costs to the operation by the empty positioning flight.
-So far no scheduled airlines have started operations into Kabul, so there is a huge demand for cargo consolidations and uplift capacity beyond what is provided by military cargo aircraft, says Jessen.
