MAY 01, 2003 (newstodate): From June, Israeli airline, Middle East Airlines Ltd will start operating a route between Tel Aviv, Israel, and Vilnius, Lithuania.
The airline will lease a Lithuanian Airlines Boeing 737 and a YAK-42 from Lithuanian carrier Aurela to operate the flights.
-We will start with a once-weekly flight, adding a second weekly frequency two weeks later, says Valery Kranz, General Director of MEA.
Operations will cease again by October.
-We have been flying this route for 11 years now, targetting Israeli expatriates from the Baltic and Ukrainean regions. We would like to reinstate year-round operations as we had earlier, but the current political and economical situation does not warrant this, says Kranz.
The carrier plans to sell available capacity to airfreight customers as well.
