MAY 21, 2003 (newstodate): In Q1, Norway's IATA export airfreight market was down by 13.6 percent in volumes, to 13,087 tonnes, and 20.3 percent in revenues, to NOK 245.1 million.
Thus, Norway lost its traditional position as Scandinavia's 2nd largest IATA CASS airfreight market to Denmark, while the Swedish airfreight market, traditionally twice the combined volumes of Denmark and Norway, failed to maintain this position due to Danish advances in the market.
Japan's demand for fresh Norwegian salmon makes this market Norway's single most important segment. Still comprising 28.6 percent of total Norwegian IATA airfreight Japan was down 26.4 percent in volumes, and 28 percent in revenues during Q1.
North America, taking in 9.2 percent of total Norwegian exports, was down by 53 percent in volumes, and by 56.2 percent in revenues.
