MAY 14, 2003 (newstodate): At 20.2 percent, AEA's statistics on European airline delays in Q1 present a mixed bag of delay results for the European airlines.
Q1's delay rates within Europe included the best March figure at 14.1 percent since 1995, and the worst January figure, 26.1 percent, ever recorded.
January's figure was strongly influenced by bad weather, but the majkority of delays was still related to infrastructure problems as posed by airports and ATM/ATC.
Much increased military air traffic also influenced the performance, though.
The overall Q1 performance was down 0.5 percentage-point on last year.
