JUN 01, 2003 (newstodate): Coyne Airways is seeing good results from its freighter service from Korea to Russian island Sakhalin, now served weekly since May 8.
-Since July, 2002, when operations were started with three monthly An-12 flights, the airline has delivered more than 250,000 kilos of oil and gas equipment and related supplies to Sakhalin, the company says in a statement.
In addition to its scheduled operation, Coyne has completed a dozen charter flights in the Far East using the An-12. This aircraft is available to operate ad-hoc flights in the region.
-So far, some 90 per cent of the cargo we have moved has been for the oil and gas industry but we expect to see an increase in construction related freight. The road, bridges and airport infrastructure on the island of Sakhalin needs to be upgraded and new accommodation is also
required to house the growing community of oil workers, the company says.
