JUN 13, 2003 (newstodate): Scandinavia's low-cost carrier Sterling is now targetting the air cargo market as well.
-As we operate an expanding network of frequent intra-Scandinavia routes and routes to destinations in South Europe with a fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft, it makes sense to capitalise on the available belly capacity as well, says Peter Garrett, Sterling captain and owner of a new company, Onexp, set up to sell the available cargo capacity on the aircraft.
According to Mr. Garrett, Onexp, that will be formally launched by July 1, has signed contracts with a number of GSA to cover the immediate needs, with further GSA agreements in other markets in the pipeline.
So far GSA agreements have been signed with ScanPartners for Denmark and Sweden, Airlines Services for Norway, Gen-Air in Spain, and with ATC Aviation for France and Italy.
-Ex-Scandinavia shipments comprise newspapers and magasines, and ships spares to especially Malaga. We regularly transport shipments of perishables from the Canary Islands, and we are also expecting sound business progress in exports from Bergamo to Scandinavia, Garrett says.
