JUN 16, 2003 (newstodate): Association of European Airlines traffic figures for the week ending June 8th showed no sign of a recovery in the Far East/Australia market and continued weakness in Europe, but more encouraging trends in the North Atlantic and Middle East markets.
Far Eastern traffic was 27.8% lower than in the corresponding week in 2002, no more
than a marginal improvement on recent figures. The intra-European traffic loss of 4.2%
was slightly less severe than the previous week, despite again including the impact of
industrial action.
Positive growth was recorded on the North Atlantic market, of 1.2%, following a fourweek
sequence of negatives. There was an even greater turnaround on Middle Eastern routes, which posted their first traffic growth a plus 3.2% since early February.
