JUN 27, 2003 (newstodate): The German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accidents Investigation says the investigation report on the mid-air collision between a Tupolev TU-154 of Bashkirian Airlines and a DHL Boeing 757 cargo aircraft over Ueberlingen in Southern Germany is expected towards the end of this year.
The accident, which resulted in the loss of 71 lives, occurred on July 1, 2002, in an area of Southern German airspace managed by Swiss skyguide on Germany's behalf.
Since August 2002, a number of meetings have been held between the parties to reach a swift out-of-court agreement on compensation for the relatives of those who died and others affected by the accident.
The Swiss and German governments have now signed an agreement to contribute to a pool together with skyguide to ensure that compensation claims arising from complex major accidents can be settled as swiftly and unbureaucratically as possible.
