AUG 19, 2003 (newstodate): Taiwan's vice president has blasted Boeing for canceling a scheduled visit to the aircraft producer's facilities after pressure from Beijing.
"Shame on Boeing!" declared vice president Anette Lu during a banquet hosted by Seattle's Taiwanese community Sunday evening.
Lu had been scheduled to visit Boeing's headquarters north of Seattle on a transit stop on her way back from a state visit to Paraguay.
But Lu said that Boeing canceled the visit at the last minute. The vice president related that the U.S. government had initially welcomed the arranged visit and thus never imagined that the Beijing regime could not only pressure national governments, but also private corporations.
