AUG 28, 2003 (newstodate): From September 16, Singapore Airlines Cargo will be testing out potentials for trafficking Kuwait Airport as a transit point for freighters between Europe and Singapore.
Initially, the company has decided to route three of its weekly Boeing 747-400F freighters from Brussels to Singapore via Kuwait, and SQ Cargo offices in Europe have been told to support the move.
According to industry sources, SQ Cargo will target e.g. shipments of UN and other parties' relief and reconstruction materials to nearby Iraq to sustain the new destination.
Kuwait thus becomes SQ Cargo's third destination in the Gulf region, including also Sharjah with seven weekly freighters from Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Frankfurt and Brussels, and Dubai with nine weekly freighters from Copenhagen, Amsterdam, London, and Brussels.
