SEP 04, 2003 (newstodate): The General Administration of Civil Aviation of China, CAAC, has announced looser restrictions on commercial flights over its northern airspace, giving airlines a flexible choice of entry into the country on the day of flight.
The new policy will grant airlines flying between North America and China a choice of three entry points and four cross-polar routes no later than one hour prior to take-off.
The new policy is expected to provide added cross-polar flight volumes with enhanced safety and efficiency.
With the new regulations, airlines may cut more than 40 minutes off the flying times on the cross-polar routes.
The new policy was actually put into effect by the end of June, but the outbreak of SARS delayed its announcement till Wednesday.
