SEP 12, 2003 (newstodate): The level of demands for airport and air cargo security is very high in Denmark, and we intend to keep it at this level, says a leading Danish CAA official.
-Airlines may very easily experience differences in demands and national regulations on security among EU member countries. Denmark has decided to take the EU regulations and directives as the minimum requirements, adding further demands on top of this, and this has been approved by the EU authorities, says Jessi Johnsen, Danish CAA chief inspector security.
-In Denmark any off-airport service provider that has filed an approved security plan with us can offer road feeder services to truck air cargo across the borders. But no off-airport service provider can undertake and offer screening of the cargo to be delivered at an airport as cargo ready for carriage. Only a handling agent at the airport, approved by one or several airlines, can offer this service, says Jessi Johnsen.
-The current debate on the actual status of a leading off-airport service provider in Denmark is easily summed up. In the terms of CAA, the company is a freight forwarder, authorized to truck cargo that must be screened by a cargo handling agent at the airport before being ready for carriage. That's all! she says.
