SEP 08, 2003 (newstodate): Norway's important exporet of fresh salmon to the Japanese market was down by 18 percent during the first six months this year.
In total, Norway exported 10,275 tonnes of fresh salmon to Japan during January-June, compared to 12,516 tonnes in 2002.
A combination of a strong Norwegian currency, a global economic recession, the outbreak of SARS and effects from the war in Iraq contributed to the decline.
