SEP 25, 2003 (newstodate): Everyone was caught by surprise as the Danish CAA security inspector recently wrote off the very notion of "off-airport cargo handling agents".
-We were as much surprised as probably anybody else attending the meeting that Haugsted Aircargo Trucking cannot actually offer cargo handling services at their off-airport location, says John Soerensen, DHL Danzas Air & Ocean and chairman of the Danish Freight Forwarders Association's air cargo section.
-We now expect this issue to be finalised in talks between Haugsted and the Danish CAA, as well as between Haugsted and their airline customers. After all it is essential that roles are clearly defined, and services performed to the letter, he says.
According to Mr Soerensen, the issue is, however, mainly a problem for Haugsted and their airline customers as they remain responsible for the security of the air cargo.
-We, as forwarders, will continue to deliver the shipments where the airline instructs us to, so we have no intention of taking own action on this matter, Soerensen says.
