SEP 18, 2003 (newwtodate): Airlines may save up to an estimated 40 million euro per year due to a major upgrading of the Istanbul and Athens Fligt Information Regions.
IATA, ICAO, the governments of Greece and Turkey, and nine other countries in the region have approved a technical and operational plan to improve their air navigation route network in south-eastern Europe which will increase the capacity of the airspace by 15 percent.
The improvements are scheduled to be in place by December 2003, prompted by the needs connected to the Olympics 2004 that will drastically increase the pressure on the aviation services.
