SEP 29, 2003 (newstodate): Taking effect from January 1, 2004, SAS-owned Finnish airline Air Botnia will operate under its new name, Blue1.
The airline is now planning for a major expansion, adding a new route from Helsinki to Geneva on October 6, thus operating routes to 12 destinations in seven countries.
The airline currently operates a fleet of five Avro RJ85 and five SAAB 2000.
By October/November Air Botnia will add two new RJ85 and two RJ100, increasing its seat capacity by 60 percent while increasing the fleet to f 14 aircraft operating a total of 102 daily flights from November.
SAS acquired Air Botnia in 1998 under a strategy seeing Finland as part of the airline's home market. Since then, SAS had tripled its freqiency of flights between Scandinavia and Finland from 40 to 120 daily flights, attaining a market share in Finland at 21 percent.
