SEP 23, 2003 (newstodate): SWISS has decided to join the oneworld Alliance, and in a parallel action SWISS and British Airways have signed a MoU which will lead the two airlines into a strategic alliance.
Memberhsip of the oneworld alliance has been the No 1 priority for SWISS since the formation of the new airline following on the demise of its predecessor, Swissair.
Membership of oneworld is also considered by SWISS as a recognition of the validity of its new business plan.
SWISS expects its membership of oneworld to produce a direct commercial benefit of some CHF 100 million a year. The existing oneworld members have jointly generated additional revenues of more
than USD 2 billion over the past three years through their membership of the alliance.
