JAN 19, 2004 (newstodate): In December, Copenhagen Airport saw imports up 21.1 percent, and export by 15.8 percent, but a 11.9 percent drop in transfer cargo kept totals 3.6 percent down on last year.
In all, imports aggregated 4,103, exports 5.650, and transfer cargo 19,109 tonnes, respectively.
Thus, transfer cargo's proportion of the total cargo throughput totalling 29.946 tonnes, continued to decrease, in December constituting 66.2 percent.
For the full year, 2003, Copenhagen Airport noted a decline by 10.2 percent in volumes, again hampered by a 17.5 percent decline in transfer cargo against a 11.7 percent increase in imports, and a 9.9 growth in exports.
In 2003, Copenhagen Airport totalled 335,731 tonnes of air cargo, 68 percent of which was transfer cargo.
A change in the traffic system of the airport's main integrator airline, DHL Aviation, as well as a sustained trend towards consolidation of forwarders' shipments at off-airport cargo terminals before trucking to continental airports are among the reasons for the airport's negative cargo performance during the recent years.
