JAN 14, 2004 (newstodate): In December, Estonian Air saw a 14 percent increase in cargo volumes, carrying 135.8 tonnes of cargo and 53.8 tonnes of mail.
In 2003, the airline's total volume carried was 1,359 tonnes of cargo and 417 tonnes of mail, up 8.5 percent on 2002.
-The most important cargo routes in 2003 were those from Tallinn to Copenhagen, Frankfurt and London. The most distant cargo destinations in 2003 were New York and Detroit in the USA and Beijing in Asia, says Epp Alatalu, Estonian Air PR-manager.
-In 2003, Estonian Air's biggest cooperation partners included Air Cargo Estonia, DFDS Transport, VIM Agency, as well as Tallinn Zoo, she says.
The largest one-time cargo deliveries in 2003 have been 2.2-tonne shipments to Moscow. The average monthly cargo volume on the Tallinn-Moscow route was 12 tonnes.
On the Tallinn-Vilnius route, Estonian Air carries 5.6 tonnes of cargo per month, 60 percent of this is transit cargo to Vilnius.
According to Estonian Air cargo sales manager, Toomas Orukivi, the forecast is that the volume of transit cargo to Moscow and Vilnius is expected to increase further in 2004.
Estonian Air has 14 Cargo General Sales Agents: in Denmark, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Ukraine, Great Britain, the USA, France, Norway and Hong Kong. The GSA in the Netherlands covers also Belgium, and the German GSA covers also Switzerland.
