JAN 08, 2004 (newstodate): Icelandair Cargo plans to hand back its Boeing 737 freighter by April 1, sustaining its current fleet of two Boeing 757 freighter aircraft.
-We could use the capacity of the 737, but it is more cost-efficient to operate and maintain only one aircraft type, says Petur J Eiriksson, Icelandair Cargo managing director.
-We are very happy with the Boeing 757 freighters, and our second aircraft has just been contracted by TNT to operate four times weekly into Liege starting from next week. So far the aircraft has been operated solely within our own network, he says.
-There is practically no availability of Boeing 757/767 freighter aircraft in the market, and the conversion of Boeing 757 passenger aircraft has only just started. But we hope to add a third aircraft of this type by medio 2005 or maybe even sooner, says Petur J Eiriksson.
