JAN 27, 2004 (newestodate): Work is still slowly progressing at Kabul Airport to clear the airport area of dozens of bombed-out and burned aircraft weckages after years of fighting.
Last weekend, a contingent of German UN troops took part in the cleaning process by hauling the wreckage of a burnt-out cargo aircraft out of the area.
The efforts are part of the attempts to induce more civil aviation traffic at Kabul Airport, home base of Ariana Afghan Airlines that operates a fleet of three Airbus A300-B4, four Boeing 727-200, and one An-24 aircraft.
