JAN 13, 2004 (newstodate): Leipzig-Halle Airport saw a continued brisk increase in cargo volumes during January-November, 2003.
During the period, a total of 8,380 tonnes of air cargo was handled, comprising 3,111 tonnes of import, up 25.6 percent, and 5,268 tonnes of exports, up 17,2 percent. Thus the airport totalled an 20.2 percent increase in its volumes.
Including transit and trucked cargo, total volumes were 9,989 tonnes, up 14.8 percent on last year.
The airport benefits from its strategic location as a major hub for ex-Europe freight for E Europe, Russia/CIS and Central Asia.
Latest addition to the airport's activities was the start om December 8, 2003, of a new freighter route from Leipzig-Halle Airport to Baku, driven by the just2CIS Alliance.
The airports also offers freighter flights to Kiev, Tblisi and Moscow, and has established a number of airfreight delivery points in European hubs including Milan, Amsterdam, Paris, and London.
