JAN 07, 2003 (newstodate): After recent meetings between Korean Air and Finnair, prospects for a commercial agreement between the two airlines may be improving, according to industry sources.
Korean Air Cargo has been operating a weekly freighter service from Seoul to Helsinki since December 1, but as the airline has no traffic rights ex-Finland, it only flies Korean imports into Helsinki, leaving empty for Luxembourg, from where is operates back to Seoul with shipments sold and managed by Korean Air Cargo's Brussels-office.
Industry sources claim that Finnair has now confirmed its interest in a joint operation from Helsinki to Seoul, and this will enhance the chances for the freighter to obtain traffic rights "sooner or later".
