JAN 22, 2004 (newstodate): In 2003, Slovak Airlines saw its modest cargo volume down to 180 tonnes.
-This was a decline by 43 percent compared to the year before, says Martina Filipova, Slovak Airlines marketing.
According to Ms Filipova, the decline was mainly due to the introduction last year of Boeing 737 aircraft on the route from Bratislava to Moscow, formerly served with Tupolev Tu-134 aircraft.
-The cargo capacity of Boeing 737 is about eight cubic metres less than that of the Tupolev, drastically cutting our cargo business potentials in a very competitive market. Even so, we will certainly fight to increase our cargo volumes in 2004 even if air cargo remains a marginal business for Slovak Airlines, she says.
