OCT 07, 2004 (newstodate): After having been sitting on the fence for a few years, Lufthansa Cargo has now committed itself fully to implementation of Cargo 2000.
With Lufthansa Cargo as the anchor, Cargo 2000 held a Rollout conference in Frankfurt on October 6 to update the local airline and freight forwarding communities on the content and status of Cargo 2000, and to boost interest in signing up for Cargo 2000 membership.
-We have admittedly being delaying our final decision on Cargo 2000, but now we are convinced by the many new things happening and the great energy manifested by the organisation, said Dr Andreas Otto, member of the LH Cargo Executive Board with responsibility for marketing & sales.
-There is still a huge room for automation and standardisation in this industry, and whether seen from the top or from the side, Cargo 2000 complies fully with our strategy.
-First we need systems to measure the concrete daily performances of carriers and forwarders to attain at universal transparancy all along the supply chain. Secondly, we also need shippers to be included in the Cargo 2000 process, not just as associates but as regular members. I personally believe that it all starts with the shippers, and ends with the shippers that are ultimately the buyers of all services in the supply chain, he said.
-We therefore encouraging all parties and players to join Cargo 2000. It is not a question of "if" - it is a question of "When", said Dr Otto.
