OCT 13, 2004 (newstodate): A delay of several months in the delivery of two B757-200 converted freighters is causing severe capacity problems for Icelandair cargo.
-The first of the two aircraft that are being converted by Precision in Seattle was due to be delivered in September but is now expected to be ready late December. A second aircraft was due in November but will hardly be operational until January 2005, says Petur Eiriksson, Icelandair Cargo managing director.
-Facing a growth in our markets by almost 30 percent this year, Icelandair Cargo is encountering large problems in serving the customers, he says.
The company has been leasing an A310 to fulfill a wet lease contract with TNT, and a planned increase in its own schedules between Iceland and Europe has been delayed.
A 737-300 has been leased once or twice a week from Channel Express, and a TU-204 will now be flying for Icelandair Cargo most of the week.
