OCT 19, 2004 (newstodate): Speculations about Icelandair's bidding on a stake in Malev are denied by the airline.
-I can confirm that we have absolutely no plans for bidding on Malev, says Gudjun Arngrimsson, Icelandair director corporate communications.
-But as we have been quite succesful during the recent years, expanding our traffic and opening new destinations including San Francisco to come from May next year, we are in a strong position and have decided on a strategy of expansion.
-We are therefore always considering viable business opportunities, and we have the strength, including the financial background, to act when a feasible option arises. Which is not the case with Malev, says mr Arngrimsson.
