OCT 04, 2004 (newstodate): Lithuania's ministry of transportation is assessing various options for the country's future airport structure.
According to industry sources, plans include the construction of a new capital airport, or a thorough upgrading of Vilnius and Kaunas airports.
-As this is a very big issue with great financial implications, and as Lithuania is now member of the EU, the first step will be to open a tender for companies to provide a feasibility study, the source says.
-This will provide the background for assessing whether a new airport or an upgrade of existing airports is the best venue. So far the ministry of transportation has established a working group to prepare for the process, and to to follow the work once it is launched.
